The Four Pillars of the MPDS® BASIC Modular Photochemical Laboratory System

A professional photochemical laboratory system is only as strong as its components. The MPDS® BASIC integrates four critical elements into one cohesive workflow.

1. Advanced Radiation Sources

All photochemically relevant wavelengths at your fingertips.
We cover the entire spectral range by utilizing both monochromatic and polychromatic light sources. Our cutting-edge lamp technology includes:

  • UV-LEDs: High-efficiency, monochromatic radiation.
  • Xenon Light Sources: For sunlight simulations.
  • Mercury Lamps: Broad emitting Mercury medium lamps for full wavelength screening. High power low-pressure lamp options for VUV and UVC applications.
  • Key Advantage: We supply relevant spectral energy distribution data for our lamp systems and performant reactor solutions with optimized mass transfer, ensuring your research meets the highest scientific standards for reproducibility.
    We will find your sweetspot!

2. Innovative Cladding Tubes

Thermal decoupling and the patented MPDS® screwing system.
To protect your reaction from the heat of the lamp, our sophisticated cladding tube system provides essential thermal decoupling.

  • No More Cracking: Our innovative screwing system prevents the common issue of glass fastening elements cracking under stress.
  • Pressure Resistance: The screwing system allows safe application even with up to 0.5 bar (g) of pressure.
  • CIP Ready: Fully demountable glass tubes for easy, “Cleaning-in-Place” maintenance.

From Feasibility to Industrial Reality: The Roadmap

The MPDS® BASIC is not just a simple photoreactor; it is the first step in your process development journey. As your research matures, the system can be expanded step-by-step into an automated MPDS® EVO or MPDS® PRO system.

This modularity allows you to acquire the reaction-relevant data—such as quantum yield and kinetic parameters—necessary for a successful transition to industrial-scale production, while keeping initial investments at a minimum.

Frequently Asked Questions to our
Modular Photochemical Development System Basic

The standard range covers 2 ml up to 3,000 ml. However, because we design and manufacture our own glass and reactor components, we can offer customized photoreactor geometries for specific research needs.

Yes. Safety is a core component of our photochemical laboratory system. The included photonCABINET is light-proof, double-walled, and CE-compliant. It is specifically designed to protect operators from harmful optical radiation and ensures that any ozone generated by specific lamp types, but also flammable solvents can be safely managed within a standard fume hood environment.

The MPDS® BASIC is built for high-performance chemistry. Our reactors and cladding tubes are primarily manufactured from high-quality Borosilicate 3.3 or Quartz glass, offering excellent resistance to most organic solvents and corrosive chemicals. For seals and fastening elements, we utilize high-grade fluoropolymers (like PTFE/FKM) and stainless steel, ensuring the system remains leak-proof and durable even when handling challenging reaction mixtures. If any corrosive gases are involved, we recommend the PRO series

One of the primary advantages of the Modular Photochemical Development System Basic is its speed of reconfiguration. Thanks to our patented screwing system and the photonCABINET's encoded connectors, switching from a monochromatic UV-LED to a polychromatic Mercury or Xenon lamp takes only a few minutes. This allows researchers to screen multiple wavelengths and lamp technologies in a single day without tedious tool-heavy adjustments. Even the lamp cooling devices can be re-used for different kind of lamps, making it even more modular and efficient

Absolutely. The “Modular” in MPDS® means you can add sensors, actuators, and automation modules to transition into the EVO or PRO series as your project grows. Your initial investment in the BASIC hardware is protected, as the core components remain compatible with our more advanced automation suites.

Yes. While many entry-level systems are limited to batch reactions, the MPDS® BASIC supports the entire range of Batch, Conti Flow photoreactors, including Falling-Film, Tubular-Flow, and Plug-flow options. This makes it an ideal tool for researchers looking to transition from traditional batch processing to continuous flow photochemistry.
